The former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said he strongly opposes the new strategy of the United States for Afghanistan and Central Asia.
The former President in a statement said "I very strongly oppose the new US strategy towards Afghanistan as it is against peace and the national interest of Afghanistan."
Karzai further added "The strategy excludes bringing peace and prosperity to Afghanistan and is focused on more war and rivalry in the region. US must seek peace and stability in Afghanistan rather than extending conflict and bloodshed in Afghanistan and the region."
President Trump on Tuesday unveiled the new strategy of the US for Afghanistan and South Asia.
He said his original instinct was to pull out however he said after detailed study of the situation he arrived at three fundamental conclusions. Trump did not provide details about the exact number of troops he might send but he hinted that he had embraced the Pentagon's proposal to deploy another 4,000 more forces to Afghanistan. There are already 8,400 American occupation troops in the country.
Trump's new plan which includes increasing troops in Afghanistan is a complete flip-flop from the advice he once tweeted as a private citizen.
Between 2012 and 2013 Trump's Twitter tweeted regularly on Afghanistan. "Wasting our money" and a "speedy withdrawal" were two of the common themes expressed.
In 2015, during his election campaign, Trump said of an attack in Afghanistan in which US troops were killed: "We are being led to the slaughter!"
Afghanistan continues to be torn by decades of a Taliban-led militancy despite the 2001 invasion of the US and its allies to vanquish the militant group.ISIS Takfiri terrorists group has also gained control of swathes of the war-torn country.
